In Yakuza: Like a Dragon, visiting the Ounabara Vocational School in Yokohama is one of the most effective ways to boost Ichiban Kasuga's core personality stats. Passing the various certification exams grants significant stat increases that unlock new job classes, dialogue options, and character interactions across Isezaki Ijincho. Mastering these tests requires a blend of general knowledge, history, and game-specific trivia.
Understanding the Ounabara Vocational School System
Located in the southern region of Isezaki Ijincho, the vocational school offers over twenty unique exams covering topics from history and math to sports and music. Each exam consists of five multiple-choice questions selected randomly from a larger pool, requiring at least three correct answers to pass. Taking an exam costs a fee in yen, making it important to prepare beforehand to avoid wasting valuable funds early in the game.
Key Subjects and High-Yield Personality Boosts
Exams are categorized by the primary personality trait they upgrade upon completion, such as Passion, Charisma, Intellect, or Kindness. For instance, the Music Proficiency exam focuses on classical compositions and instrumental trivia, boosting Ichiban's Style stat significantly. Completing these tests early allows players to easily recruit business management staff and access restricted areas around Yokohama.
Tips for Passing Every Exam Efficiently
Since questions are chosen at random during each attempt, studying the common question patterns helps ensure success on your first try. Utilizing specialized items or pausing to double-check answers can help save money during expensive higher-tier exams. Consistent testing gradually transforms Kasuga into a well-rounded leader capable of handling tougher challenges later in the campaign.
Unlocking Special Rewards Beyond Personality Stats
Beyond increasing individual personality traits, completing every test at Ounabara unlocks special side stories and unique bond opportunities. Higher personality levels directly correlate with better combat performance through unlocked job requirements and party member synergies. Taking time to clear the vocational school catalog provides a smooth advantage throughout your journey in Yokohama.
